NBC screened the pilot for Midnight, Texas—based on Charlaine Harris’ series of paranormal romance/urban fantasy books—at New York Comic-Con. And while we’re still waiting on a premiere date for this new supernatural thriller series, the network did save a consolation prize for everyone not at NYCC: a first-look trailer!

The official summary from NBC:

Welcome to a place where being normal is really quite strange and only outsiders fit in. Based on the best-selling book series by Charlaine Harris (author of the novels that inspired True Blood), comes a journey into a remote Texas town where nothing is what it seems. Home to a vampire, witch, angel and hitwoman,Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different. That is, until the arrival of a powerful psychic and the murder of one of their own. As the town members fight off outside pressures from ever-suspicious cops, deadly biker gangs, and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form an unlikely but strong family.

Midnight, Texas is one of those shows populated by “oh, that guy/gal!” actors: Franςois Arnaud (Blindspot, The Borgias) as psychic-on-the-run Manfred Bernardo; Peter Mensah (Sleepy Hollow) as a vampire; Parisa Fitz-Henley (Reva on Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) as a cat lady harboring some secret powers; Jason Lewis (Sex and the City) as an angel, or at least someone hiding wings; Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries, UnREAL) as a hitwoman; Dylan Bruce (formerly Paul on Orphan Black) as a very suspicious human; and more misfits who band together after the mysterious murder that kicks off the series. Oh, and Manfred’s dead grandma who acts as his confidante. Fringe‘s Monica Owusu-Breen serves as writer and showrunner.

Will Midnight, TX gain more inhabitants in the form of viewers? That all depends on what you think of this trailer:
